Paul Pogba admits he was unhappy being benched at Manchester United

According to the Mirror, Manchester United star Paul Pogba has admitted to being frustrated at spending time on the bench early this season.

The French international started in all of United’s first three Premier League games of the season. Having just recovered from coronavirus, the player wasn’t at his best and struggled to make an impact.

He played all 90 minutes of our loss to Tottenham before being demoted to the bench. Seven of his next nine appearances came as a substitute much to his annoyance.

“I hate to be on the bench, I don’t like it.”

With his starting spot taken away, the player went on to admit that being away on international duty with France was akin to a ‘breath of fresh air’.

This propelled news of him being unhappy at Old Trafford. The news gained pace after his agent Mino Raiola openly came out to admit that his client wanted a move.

“It’s a huge difference when you start one game and don’t start another one, or if you don’t start for a few games.”

Pogba’s annoyance comes from the fact that there is little he can do to influence matters off the field.

Making his own destiny!

While he admits that other players also deserve their opportunities, as a winner, he is seeking regular game time where he can influence proceedings.

“I’m a winner, I just want to play football and help my team. When I’m on the bench and I don’t come on, I feel like I can’t help my team-mates so I feel bad and I don’t like it.”

A recent upturn in form has seen Pogba start eight of our last eleven games. He has upped his performances and is today a key member of the team.

“As long as I’m on the pitch I give my best and as much as I can do to help my team.”

While one could argue that Pogba’s words were exaggerated by his agent, Raiola’s statements were pretty clear.

Pogba’s contract at United runs until 2022 and as of yet, there appear to be no developments in him signing an extension. With him expected to move in the summer, the 27-year-old’s time at the club is nearing its end.

If he keeps up his current level of performances, his last hurrah could be one to remember.
