Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives an injury update on Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire

According to the Express, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened up on the injury sustained by skipper Harry Maguire against Aston Villa.

The English international took a knock when Edinson Cavani’s clumsy tackle saw Anwar El Ghazi slam into him. Maguire immediately went to the ground and required medical assistance.

Although he tried to shake it off, it was not to be and he was taken off for Eric Bailly. This is the first time since joining United in 2019 that Maguire has failed to play a Premier League game to the end.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer revealed that his skipper had injured either his calf or his lower leg. It would appear that contact with El Ghazi saw Maguire twist himself.

“It was his calf or lower leg. I think the player landed on him and he twisted something.”

The Norwegian refused to put a time frame on Maguire’s return. It could take weeks or a month, potentially jeopardizing his participation in the Europa League final.

“I don’t know. We need to check it. It might be a few weeks or a month – we don’t know.”

It would appear that Solskjaer is guessing at the moment and we will be best served to wait until we get a better idea of Maguire’s injury.

The United boss also refused to concede if Maguire would be fit to face Leicester City on Tuesday. Hopefully, we will have a better idea regarding his availability by Monday.

“I don’t know how serious it is. He might be available on Tuesday, he might not.”

Maguire would have overtaken Gary Pallister’s record for United had he seen the game out until the end. Unfortunately, it would appear to be a case of getting so close yet being so far for the Red Devils skipper.

Our best defender, he is a shoo-in when fit and would be greatly missed if he is out injured.
