Aston Villa and Jamaica winger Leon Bailey rules out Chelsea move after London admission

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey has been linked with a move to Chelsea recently, as per BirminghamLive. But the Blues may have a hard time convincing him to join their team.

Speaking on the Let’s Be Honest (h/t BirminghamLive), the Jamaica international made a clear admission that he wasn’t interested in making a move to London because of the lifestyle in the city.

“You don’t want to go and live in London. The London lifestyle is fast. You can be distracted, easily, because every day there’s something to do.”

Bailey moved to Aston Villa in the summer of 2021 from Bayer Leverkusen. The nature of his comments suggests that he isn’t ruling out a future move to London. He continued:

“Then you have the top of the top people in London and, because you have money, you always feel like you need to do something and meet friends, go out and party and get caught in the wrong company. I didn’t want that for myself. So, as I say, you have to take things a step at a time.”

The last sentence is the one that catches the eye. He isn’t saying that he will never move to the capital city, but that he is taking things one step at a time.

Perhaps he was referring to the time he joined the Birmingham-based outfit and avoided moving to London instead. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old is an able winger with superb technique when it comes to hitting the ball.

He is in the prime years of his career and if available on the market, could be a smart addition for manager Graham Potter in attack. He has four goals and two assists in 16 games across competitions for the Villans this campaign.

More Chelsea News:

His contract expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt), which means Aston Villa would know they are not in danger of losing him on a free transfer anytime soon. It won’t harm the west London giants to keep tabs on Bailey and gauge when he is ready to take the next ‘step’ in his career.
