Samu Omorodion was left deeply upset by the transfer saga that saw his move to Chelsea fall apart in the summer.

The Blues were pursuing the Spanish striker, but Atletico Madrid initially insisted he was not for sale. But the club changed their mind when Conor Gallagher was offered in return.

Omorodion was all set to move to Stamford Bridge after a deal was agreed between the two clubs. The player even underwent a medical, but the transfer collapsed for reasons that remain a mystery.

The 20-year-old eventually signed for FC Porto, where he has scored seven goals in seven games. Having also helped Spain win goal at the Olympic Games in Paris, the forward has enjoyed the past couple of months.

But Omorodion has opened up on the tough period during the transfer window when his future was up in the air, leaving him crying at night.

“The gold medal wasn’t so bad, but it was a very difficult summer,” he told MARCA. “When I was in Madrid I had a very bad time. In the end, thank God, everything turned out well.

“If the Chelsea move didn’t work out it was for a reason and in the end everything turned out well.

“There at Atletico de Madrid, I trained separately. I didn’t feel involved, not like a footballer. I trained and my head told me ‘no.’

“I had a bad time. I cried a lot at night. My family and my mother had a very bad time. In the end, thank God, everything came together quickly and I made the best decision.

“Nobody spoke to me and I didn’t speak to anyone. I was still an Atletico de Madrid player, I had to go to training and do my job. I already knew the club’s position.

“These are things that happen in football and that make you gain experience and learn for the future.”
