Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has had a dig at Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

Throughout the season, Klopp has raised his concerns regarding the fixture pile-up.

Despite that being the case, Klopp fielded a very strong XI against Aston Villa in the FA Cup last Friday night.

The likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho all started.

Normally for the FA Cup, Klopp would rest most of his regulars.

Ferdinand has criticised Klopp for fielding a strong team against Aston Villa because the German complained about the fixture pile-up earlier this season.

Ferdinand told (07:51) his YouTube channel: “But you’re [Klopp] moaning about fixture pile-up and demands on your players, the big-hitters have got to sit out. I can’t take his comments seriously. If he was that bothered, he would have sit the big-hitters out.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

To be fair, leading into the FA Cup clash against Aston Villa, Liverpool had failed to win their past three games.

With that being the case, we don’t think that Klopp had much of a choice in terms of the team he fielded against Aston Villa.

The reality is, Liverpool were out of form going into the Aston Villa clash. Liverpool needed a win.

Liverpool ended up winning the clash 4-1, which means that Klopp’s team on the night, which included a number of first-team players, found some form.
