Tottenham star Son Heung-Min reveals he is a secret Manchester United fan

Speaking to Pro Direct Soccer (h/t Metro), Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min revealed he is secretly a Manchester United fan. The South Korean admitted he has been a fan since his childhood but has kept it somewhat hidden after joining Spurs six years ago.

There’s not a lot to say about Son that hasn’t already been said. A talented young winger at Bayer Leverkusen, Son caught the attention of Spurs in 2015 and they decided to bring him to the club. He took no time to adjust to the pace and style of the Premier League. Since then, Son has racked up goals and assists at a regular rate.

Son has been a key player for Spurs

While trophies have been on the drier side, he has not let it affect his performances. So far, he has scored 109 goals and assisted 64 in 284 appearances (h/t Transfermarkt). As he continues to recover from a calf injury, he had the chance t speak about his favourite team and inspiration from childhood.

Son admitted that he used to be a fan of Manchester United and it was because of his inspiration, Ji-Sung Park. It is understandable given how United are a global club and Park was one of the few players from South Korea impressing in the league.

‘Manchester United because obviously Ji-sung was playing. He’s a national hero. In Korea also they would say he has two hearts. He’s a national hero for me. He’s a good friend of mine. He offered to the players from South Korea [the way to play], he gave us hope and the opportunity. It’s not easy, you know, he was the first one that played in the Premier League. So I was supporting United, but I can’t now!’ Son admitted he was a Manchester United fan because of Ji-Sung Park
