In the world of football, there is perhaps no better love story than that of FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi. The Argentine icon and the Catalan club have a rich history between them, but things have hardly been smooth in recent times. Instead, the consequences of the actions that the Barcelona board have taken recently have been rather turbulent.
With Messi no longer at the club, something that many used to believe would be an impossible statement at one point in time, the two parties seem to have drifted apart. However, issues in the present do not neglect the already established past.
That general assumption was recently even confirmed by the way Lionel Messi spoke about Barcelona in a recent interview, as highlighted by Barca Times. For the current Inter Miami star, he still feels as if he ‘belongs to Barcelona’ as he elaborated on his true feelings:
“My children are Catalan. I’ve spent my whole life in Barcelona. In fact, I feel like I belong to Barcelona. My family and I always think about the possibility of moving back to there, we miss Barcelona very much.”
Understandably a statement that will resonate well with fans of the club, but it also hints at the possibility that the relationship between La Blaugrana and the South American forward can still recover and progress. Ultimately, that is the best conclusion anyone could want for both the Spanish club and the FIFA World Cup-winning forward.
Previously, there were reports suggesting that Barça remain hopeful about seeing the player attend their celebrations for the club’s 125th year anniversary. As time passed, reputable sources began to state that the player would indeed be joining in on the celebrations in person.
That particular event would be the perfect opportunity for Barcelona and Joan Laporta especially to make amends and fix the choices that they made. While the players may undoubtedly have developed into quite the fierce opponents, it is also true that La Blaugrana did not make the process easy for them.
