Mohamed Salah has confirmed that he is staying at Anfield next season despite not signing a new contract.

Speaking in his pre-Real Madrid press conference, as quoted by the club's official website and Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the Liverpool winger said that he doesn't want to talk about his contract situation because that would be "selfish".

"I don't (want to) focus on the contract at the moment. It's about the team. It's a really important week for us. I want to win the Champions League again. I want to see (Jordan) Hendo with that trophy in his hands again," Salah said.

"In my mind, I don't focus on contracts at the moment. I don't want to be selfish."

However, the Egyptian did confirm that he'd be staying at Anfield next season despite rumours of a potential exit.

Salah further added: "I am staying next season for sure, that's clear."

Anfield Watch Verdict

This is good news for fans that want Salah to extend his contract with Liverpool. There is now a bit of hope.

James Pearce of The Athletic, as cited by Anfield Watch on Twitter, confirmed that discussions with Salah's agent will resume after the Champions League final.

He also claimed that Liverpool remain hopeful that a compromise can be reached between both sides.

If he was refusing to sign a new deal, then the club would probably be looking to make what money they could before he leaves on a free transfer at the end of the 2022-23 season.

The past six months haven't been kind to Salah though. If he was demanding crazy high wages, then the club have more than enough reason not to offer him that due to his performances in recent months.

Liverpool will be forever grateful for what Salah has done for the club, but if he wants to break the wage structure then it might be worth letting him go.

Jurgen Klopp has created multiple world-class wingers and I'm sure he'd be able to do it again if the Egyptian does leave.
