Joan Laporta’s interview with L’Esportiu has raised many eyebrows in Spanish football lately, with the Barcelona president openly criticising the Spanish FA’s financial fair play rule while lambasting former Barça management.
Laporta was quoted calling La Liga’s FFP rules a “hindrance”, claiming it is much tougher than other top footballing countries in Europe.
However, La Liga president Javier Tebas has hit back at Laporta for his comments on FFP, and has criticised the Barcelona president for talking ill of the strict rules that prevent teams from “doing whatever they want”.
“Laporta’s comments on the financial fairplay? I did not like it. If it were easier, teams could do whatever they want. I am hurt by these comments because they think that we do favors to some teams in La Liga, which is wrong,” said Tebas (h/t Leonoticias)
Other than his response to Laporta’s comments, Tebas confirmed his plans to sue PSG for their renewal of Kylian Mbappe, as he believes the Parisian juggernaut have breached every FFP rule in the book.
“The renewal of Mbappé? We will sue PSG. It is impossible for PSG to respect UEFA’s fairplay,” he added.
Tebas has faced criticism from Barcelona fans for his involvement in the Mbappe matter, but the president of La Liga has made it strictly clear that he is not doing any particular team any favour.
