It was a moment to remember for Clare Hunt on Monday evening as she netted her first ever international goal for Australia to help them to a 2-1 victory over Germany.
Starting once more the Matildas to earn her 25th cap, Clare grabbed the winning goal for her country in the final quarter of the game as she rose highest to Stephanie Catley’s corner to head home from close-range.
Having fell behind to Selina Cerci’s header inside the opening five minutes, the Matildas responded well as Kyra Cooney-Cross netted the equaliser in the first half before Clare opened her account on the international stage to inspire her nation to their first victory over Germany in 19 years.
Our centre-back also completed the full match at Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena, while Charlotte Grant was an unused substitute.
Elsewhere, Araya Dennis started in England Under-19s 2-0 victory over Norway in the Algarve Cup on Monday afternoon. The young forward completed 74 minutes in Portugal before being substituted.
