Hull City have made a name for themselves for nurturing young Premier League loanees of late, and the Tigers will be looking to do so again in the following campaign.

The Tigers had six players on loan from the top flight in the previous campaign, with the likes of Liam Delap, Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho all shining during their time on Humberside.

Owner Acun Ilicali has gone on record saying that the team will be utilising those links once again in the next campaign, with financial regulations imposed by the EFL restricting them from splashing the cash on permanent deals.

After their success of last year, new boss Tim Walter should look no further than Arsenal starlet Ethan Nwaneri, with the Gunners’ youngster already gathering a big reputation at such a tender age.

Hull City loan stars aid Tigers’ Championship campaign

City are no strangers to borrowing top stars from Premier League sides, with a number of temporary deals helping them battle for the play-offs in the previous campaign.

Carvalho added a sprinkle of stardust into the squad at the MKM Stadium after his loan move from Liverpool and joined fellow Red Morton in moving from Anfield when he signed in January.

The playmaker joined the likes of Delap - who netted eight times across the campaign - as well as Burnley duo Scott Twine and Anass Zaroury, while Luton Town lent them Ryan Giles for the second half of the season.

A repeat of the deal for Delap from Manchester City is said to be being discussed, while Ilicali is left frustrated by the amount of money he can invest in his side over the summer.

He said: "There are FFP limits and there is a big pressure on Championship clubs. They will only let me send £14m from my pocket and I will spend that to the limit, but after that, we cannot spend any more.

"At the moment we don't have room for big transfers, if one of our big players goes then it is a different scenario, but I don't want any of our big players to go.

"We have five loan options too, but we have a good squad already without the loans. We have a good goalkeeper in [Ivor] Pandur. Our left backs, centre-back, Ozan [Tufan], [Jaden] Philogene, young guys coming through, we have a good structure to the team. I think with five loans, we'll be good."

"It is important to get people early, but sometimes you can also miss the good loans from big clubs if you don't wait.”

That patience in the loan market could prove dividends for the Tigers later in the summer, with a player of Nwaneri’s calibre likely to be held on to by Arsenal until they make decisions about their squad going forward, and finally allow him to leave for the year.

Arsenal forward Ethan Nwaneri could be the final piece of the puzzle for Tim Walter’s Hull City

Nwaneri has featured twice for the Gunners’ first-team to date; making his debut as a substitute in a 3-0 victory over Brentford in September 2022 at 15 years and 181 days, making him the youngest ever player for the club.

The forward had another late appearance in the 6-0 rout of West Ham United in February of this year, and will be eager for more game time after getting a taste of the professional game.

The Mirror have previously reported that the Gunners are keen for the striker to go out on loan for the upcoming campaign, with a season under his belt at EFL level the perfect thing for his develop at this moment in time.

Having signed his first professional contract with the club in March, the teenager is very highly thought of at the Emirates Stadium, with 12 goal contributions in 13 PL2 games for the club’s development side last season highlighting his ability in front of goal.

Academy manager Per Mertesacker spoke of his talents upon his signing: “Ethan has a strong ability to master the ball, dominate possession and is really effective in the final third, which fits into our playing style at Arsenal Football Club.

“He is someone that will thrive on and off the pitch as a Strong Young Gunner and we look forward to working with him during his ongoing development in the years to come.”

That sort of tenacity and clinical nature in front of goal is exactly what the Tigers will need to boost them to the next level in the Championship next season, having narrowly missed out on the play-offs in the previous campaign.

Although Delap [pictured] and Ozan Tufan performed admirably in the striker role, to muster 18 goals between them highlights the lack of firepower City had at times during the campaign, which ultimately cost them dear in the final stages.

Nwaneri has all the talents to change that in an instant; you only have to look at his variety of goals for the Gunners’ youth side to see that, with his quick footwork and crafty finishes helping his reputation grow week on week.

A season-long deal at the MKM could make the world of difference to all parties for the next campaign, with Arsenal giving one of their most talented youngsters a chance to prove themselves, while the Tigers could reap the rewards from a striker with bags of potential.

With their sights set on the Premier League, the Tigers will be pulling up trees to make it happen, and if they can’t sign players permanently, bagging a player of Nwaneri’s talent could make their task a lot easier.
