Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and Lincoln City are all eyeing a move for winger Josh Sims, as per a recent report by Football Insider.

The former Southampton man has been a free agent since leaving the Saints last summer and has been taking his time before picking his next career move.

All four of the aforemtioned clubs are said to have made enquiries over the 24-year-old and it will now be up to the winger to decide which one represents his best chance of getting the right playing time and progression that he needs.

Sims is a player that Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore worked with closely during the duo’s time together at Doncaster Rovers and that could well be factor in helping the Owls to attract the attacker to Hillsborough.

During his time at Southampton, Sims went on to make 27 senior appearances, whilst also being loaned out to the likes of Doncaster, Reading and New York Red Bulls.

The Verdict

Sims never really made the grade at Southampton despite breaking through from their famed academy, but he certainly has the quality to make an impact in either the Championship or League One.

As mentioned earlier in the article, he already has a good rapport with Moore and that could weigh heavily in Wednesday’s favour if they firm up their interest in the winger.

It would be another attacking option to add to their already multi-talented squad and he would no doubt come in as a direct replacement for Theo Corbeanu.

This move is also very low risk for the Owls as it wouldn’t involve any sort of transfer fee due to the fact that Sims is unattached after leaving Southampton back in the summer.

The only real concern that they may have over the player is how fit he is at present.
