Hull are getting closer and closer to finally completing a deal for Regan Slater, with the latest report from The Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath revealing that the player is set to undergo a medical ahead of a transfer.

The Tigers have had the 22-year-old in their ranks previously, having signed the player on loan back when they were in League One. He featured fairly regularly, making 27 appearances, and Grant McCann clearly liked what he saw with the boss now eager to bring him back permanently.

Slater has had less luck getting on the field with Sheffield United, managing only one career appearance with the Blades so far. Instead, he’s been forced to seek out various loan moves to try and get the playing time he desires.

Has Harry Maguire played in the Premier League?

Yes No

Now, with a medical at Hull set to go ahead, it looks like he may finally seal a permanent switch to a team where he can get more frequent action.

He’s never had chance to tackle the Championship as of yet, making only that one lone appearance in the second tier for the Blades. Instead, he has played most of his football so far in Leagues One and Two, where he has looked fairly solid.

Now, Grant McCann is ready to finally give him a chance in the second tier with Hull. It seems as though a move is edging closer and closer and it could finally go over the line once this medical is completed by the player – and it will mean the Tigers have another good option in the centre of the field.

The Verdict

Regan Slater could be a solid option for Hull to sign this month, especially considering they are already familiar with the player.

The midfielder has not been able to get on the field for Sheffield United, so he will no doubt relish the chance to get more regular action in Tigers’ colours. It would be a good move for player and club and it looks like a deal is now close to being completed.

He will provide Grant McCann with another decent option in the centre of the field and while he has not yet tried his luck in the Championship, the player will no doubt be better equipped to tackle the second tier in a familiar environment like the KCOM Stadium.

While the club are currently struggling in the table, his addition could certainly help the team out. He might not start straight away but he provides another valuable option in rotation for the club.
