Hull City have agreed to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow on loan for the rest of the 2022-23 season, vice-chairman Tan Kesler has revealed.
The Tigers have been hit by a goalkeeping crisis after Nathan Baxter suffered an ankle injury which will keep him out of action for a number of months after surgery, although his loan deal from Chelsea has not been cut short just yet.
It has left Liam Rosenior with just Matt Ingram as his only senior goalkeeping option to choose from, but he will soon have competition in the form of Darlow.
Darlow played 25 times for Newcastle in the Premier League in the 2020-21 season, but had to play second fiddle to Martin Dubravka last season and featured in just eight matches.

And the summer arrival of Nick Pope has seen his game-time diminish even further, with his only outing of the season coming back in August in the EFL Cup against Tranmere Rovers.
The return of Dubravka from his brief loan stint at Manchester United, coupled with Loris Karius as further backup has seen Newcastle sanction a move for Darlow, and Kesler has not shut down the idea of making it a permanent arrangement at the end of the season, despite being on a contract at St. James’ Park which does not expire until 2025.
“We want Karl because he’s experienced promotion and played at the highest level,” Kesler told Mark Douglas of iNews.
“Karl had other clubs but thanks to him, he believed in Liam (Rosenoir’s) style of play, the owner’s vision and he has agreed to join us.
“He has joined us for six months, you never know it could be long-term but in the end we have three young goalkeepers we’re trying to develop, Harvey Cartwright is an England under-20, Thimothee Orcel-Lo Tutala, who is a France under-20 international.
“For the short-term we needed more experience and more presence.”
Despite being 32 years of age, Darlow doesn’t have that many games to his name across his career, playing just 100 senior club matches in nearly 13 years.
Even though that is a small amount, Darlow still has the ability to come into a Championship side and make a difference – it was only two years ago where he kept goal for Newcastle in the Premier League for the majority of the season.
Newcastle have obviously moved onto bigger and better things and also players, but Darlow will be happy to be going away and getting game-time as opposed to sitting on the bench or sidelines.
This is a good move for all parties and when confirmed it will give Hull two very solid options in-between the sticks in the absence of Baxter.
