A number of League One sides are hoping to capture the signing of Tyler Smith ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.

According to Hull Live, the Hull City forward could be set for a late departure from the club.

The striker had a bright start to life under new manager Liam Rosenior, bagging a brace in a win against Wigan Athletic earlier this month.

But he has since fallen further down the pecking order with Oscar Estupinan and Aaron Connolly both ahead of him.

Oxford United are one of the clubs linked with a move for Tyler, but it is understood that they face competition from several of their league rivals in the third tier.

It is believed that Rosenior is not keen to lose the 24-year old, but is open to a move in order for him to gain greater playing time.

Any deal is likely to be concluded on the basis that it will be a loan for the remainder of the season.

Hull are currently 15th in the Championship table, five points adrift of the play-off places.

The Verdict

Smith has made 14 league appearances for the Tigers this campaign, with just five of those being starts.

Going out on loan could be the right move for his career at this stage.

The arrival of Connolly has further moved him down in the pecking order, and the form of Estupinan has already kept him out of the team for the majority of games.

Hull have options in attack other than those two as well, with the likes of Ryan Longman and Dimitrios Pelkas able to operate through the middle in case of emergency, so finding greater game time elsewhere is the right move if it can be done by tonight’s deadline.
