Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has ruled out a January move for Bolton Wanderers forward Dion Charles.

The Tigers have surprised many this season in how well they are performing, as they’ve gone from a mid-table side to one that could easily make it into the play-off places, as they sit just outside them with plenty of football left to play.

Rosenior hasn’t been in the hotseat at Hull for too long, but he has managed to gel a side together that plays some very attractive, attacking football and are getting the results to go along with it.

Given the position they are in, Hull’s board will likely want to back manager Rosenior in this transfer window, and already this week they have been linked to a few players, with Bolton Wanderers’ Dion Charles being one of them.

According to The Bolton News, both Hull City and Swansea City have been keeping a close eye on Dion Charles.

The report states that scouts from both sides were in attendance during Bolton’s game away at Fleetwood Town last Friday, a game they ran out winners in and Charles was one of the scorers.

The Bolton manager Ian Evatt hasn’t ruled out a departure for Charles, as most teams in League One will have a price for their star man and if it is met, they could be willing to sell.

However, ideally, the Trotters will hope this month can go by and there is no interest in Charles, as they will want him around for their push to the Championship.

The 28-year-old has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season and has helped the Lancashire side up to second in the table.

Speaking ahead of Hull’s game against Birmingham City in the FA Cup, Liam Rosenior was asked about their potential interest in Charles, and he shut down those rumours.

Rosenior told BBC Humberside Sport: “I don’t want to speak about individual players, but striker is not a position I’m looking at, so I don’t know where that has come from.

“I’ve just brought in Billy Sharp, I’ve got Aaron Connolly and Liam Delap. I’m really happy with my central striking options and that is not an area of the pitch we are looking in January to strengthen.”

Hull City have enough attacking options

It doesn’t come as a surprise to see Rosenior rule out a move for Charles, as the Tigers already have a bundle of options in that area of the pitch.

If the club hadn’t just brought Billy Sharp in, then you could understand the interest, and you could see Hull going after Charles. But once his arrival was confirmed, it would have seemed odd for Rosenior to want another striker through the door this month.

Rosenior has built a very special squad, and he won’t want to upset that by making it much bigger than it needs to be. So, it is understandable why he’s ruling it out, and it may be one they come back to in the summer.
