Hull City are currently leading the race to sign Luton Town full-back Ryan Giles, according to yesterday's report from TEAMtalk.

The Tigers have already made moves during this window, with Billy Sharp arriving at the MKM Stadium at the start of January after putting pen to paper on a deal last month.

Ivor Pandur has also joined to strengthen their goalkeeping department, but their most notable signing of the window so far is Fabio Carvalho, who spent the first half of the season at RB Leipzig before being recalled by Liverpool.

Fending off plenty of competition to secure the ex-Fulham man's services for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign, it's clear Acun Ilicali and Liam Rosenior have a lot of pulling power, and it seems as though that could pay dividends for them once again.

A 1-0 win at Sunderland on Friday won't have done any harm to them in their quest to lure more players to East Yorkshire between now and the end of the transfer window - and Giles could be their next addition.

The addition of Giles would sum up what has been a very productive season it has been in the transfer market for Rosenior's side, who managed to lure Jaden Philogene away from Aston Villa in the summer.

Latest on Ryan Giles

Hull aren't the only team interested in the left-back at this point and that's no surprise considering how well he did on loan at Middlesbrough last season.

Cardiff City are another team thought to be keen - and they may fancy their chances of getting a deal over the line considering Giles has played for the Bluebirds before.

However, Leeds United could potentially offer a more financially attractive deal to the Hatters, for either a loan or permanent deal.

The Whites are believed to be interested and that's no surprise considering they are in desperate need of a full-back or two before the January window closes.

Djed Spence returned to Tottenham Hotspur before being sent back out on loan to Genoa and Luke Ayling has made a loan switch to Boro.

Not only this, but Sam Byram isn't guaranteed to stay fit and Archie Gray may be required in the middle of the park at some point, so Giles could be a crucial addition.

Hull City should continue Ryan Giles pursuit

The great thing about the Luton man is the fact he's versatile.

Not only can he operate at full-back, he can also play at wing-back, on the wing and even in an advanced midfielder role.

Able to be a real asset in the final third, he will only help to enhance the Tigers' chances of finishing in the top six at the end of the season.

He could even be the difference between a top-six finish and finishing outside the play-offs.

And as long as they won't be put in danger of breaching financial rules if they secure this deal, this is an agreement they should continue to pursue.

Luton are reluctant to let go of Giles though, so only a major offer may persuade them to let him go.
