A first chance of pre-season for Newcastle United fans to see their team play in the flesh.

With 4,500 away tickets snapped up and the traveling NUFC supporters rewarded with a very decent team performance.

This despite Eddie Howe still without the majority of his first team squad

Hull City just missed out on the play-offs last season, finishing seventh in the second tier, so a decent test on the road for this Newcastle United team early in their preparations.  The home side further on with their pre-season, as the Championship kicks off a week before the Premier League.

A strong start for United and pressing the home side back.

The early pressure looked to have paid dividends after 10 minutes when Isak crossed for Joelinton, who was unlucky to see Pandur in the home goal make an excellent save.

Newcastle United continued in the ascendancy and on 32 minutes, Murphy’s ball touched in at the near post by Alexander Isak. The Sweden international following up his quality goal last Saturday in the 3-1 behind-closed-doors victory over third-tier German opposition.

Eight minutes later and United doubled their lead and this time Jacob Murphy himself on the scoresheet, this time his cross in appeared to elude everybody, including the home keeper.

Only seconds earlier at the other end though, a stunning save from Nick Pope had kept his goal intact.

Predictably a bit of a more even second-half as United replaced almost the entire starting eleven with Under 21 players by the end.

Great to have Nick Pope back in goal and just before he himself was subbed on 74 minutes, he made another very good save to keep his clean sheet intact, before handing over to the Greece number one (might use that description permanently as the spelling of his name is a challenge to remember!).

Fair play to the Greece num… Vlachodimos, though, as just after taking to the pitch, he himself made a decent save to keep the two goal lead in place.

The sheer number of subs (by both sides) predictably made it stop-start after the break but all about getting minutes in legs and at the same time protecting against any unnecessary injuries by overplaying anybody.

Nice to see the young team that finished the match preserve the 2-0 win, now off to Japan for the first-team squad for their next two friendlies.

Nick Pope (Odysseas Vlachodimos 74), Tino Livramento (Trevan Sanusi 64), Jamal Lewis (Johnny Emmerson 74), Emil Krafth, Dan Burn (c), Lewis Hall (Dylan Charlton 84), Jamie Miley (Ellis Stanton 79), Jacob Murphy (Anthony Munda 74), Joelinton (Alfie Harrison 64), Harvey Barnes (Jay Turner-Cooke 64), Alexander Isak (Ben Parkinson 64)
