Hugo Lloris (37) has admitted he is still unsure whether he will continue his playing career beyond the end of 2025, when his contract with MLS side Los Angeles FC expires.
The former Olympique Lyonnais and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, who joined LAFC in December 2023, has made 62 appearances since arriving in the United States. However, as he approaches his 39th birthday in December, Lloris told L’Équipe that he has not yet decided on his next step.
“To be honest, I don’t know if I’ll still be playing or not,” Lloris said. “I haven’t made that decision yet. There’ll probably be discussions with the club this summer, but deep down, I don’t have the answer. I feel good at the moment, but I’m also realistic.”
Lloris added that while his contract ends in December, there remains “an option on the table,” and that his decision will go beyond sporting factors: “It’s also a life choice to make. For now, I’m reflecting.”
A World Cup winner with France in 2018, Lloris is the most-capped player in Les Bleus history (145 appearances). He first made his name at OGC Nice and enjoyed a successful spell at Lyon (2008–2012), before becoming a modern legend at Spurs with 447 appearances across 11 seasons.
Lloris will soon be in action again, as LAFC take part in the FIFA Club World Cup on home soil from June 15th to July 13th. Their opening fixture is set for Monday, June 16th at 21:00 local time against Chelsea – an opponent the Frenchman knows all too well from his time in the Premier League.GFFN | George Boxall
