Both Sunderland and Birmingham City have been linked to Sevilla youngster Musa Drammeh in recent days, according to Teamtalk.
Drammeh is a 22-year-old Gambian forward who has impressed for Sevilla's B team - Sevilla Atletico this season.
The young forward is yet to make his first-team bow but is said to be on the verge of a call-up to the first team after registering five goals and two appearances in 13 appearances for the club's second string this season.
He's entering the final six months of his deal with Sevilla and both the Blues and Black Cats are said to be keen on securing the youngster on a cut-price deal in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Palmer deemed Drammeh to be an impressive potential signing but did have some question marks over the forward's lack of senior football experience.
"said Palmer.
"He has been very impressive at youth team level but has no senior experience. Drammeh's contract expires in the summer, which makes him a very impressive target for a cut-price fee in the January transfer window.
"We know Sunderland like to buy young players for low fees, develop them and move them on for huge profits.
"Drammeh has pace and is very direct, so would be a good fit at either club and has huge potential."
Birmingham City manager Wayne Rooney is looking to bolster his ranks at striker, with the club having scored just 23 goals in 20 league games and the club's top scorer having only scored five goals.
Jay Stansfield currently tops the Blues' scoring charts, and he's a loan player, so bringing in Drammeh on a permanent basis would offer the club some security if Stansfield was to be recalled by Fulham.
Birmingham City have joined Sunderland in the transfer race for Sevilla's Musa Drammeh.
Sunderland, meanwhile, have a number of young strikers on their books but not a single striker has scored for them this season. Despite this, the club find themselves in the play-off places currently. This goes to show that with a prolific striker on their books they could have a really strong chance of making the play-offs.
It's testament to the rest of the squad that they're in the mix despite having strikers who haven't found the net all season, although it may not be sustainable throughout the rest of the season.
It's fair to say Sunderland would be a better fit for Drammeh given their reputation for developing young players.
Sunderland have really targeted young players in recent transfer windows in the hope they can develop them and sell them on for a bigger fee. The Black Cats are also performing better in the league table, they're in the play-off mix, while Birmingham are in the lower echelons of the table.
Despite being without a manager currently, it's not unfair to say that Sunderland are a far more stable club at this moment in time and would be more accommodating to a young player making their first strides in first-team football.
