Huddersfield Town take on Sheffield Wednesday at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.

The Terriers are currently without a manager following the sacking of Darren Moore this week following the 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Sunday.

It had looked as though Town were heading for a crucial victory when Jack Rudoni put them ahead in the 86th minute, but Kenneth Paal's 95th-minute equaliser secured a point for the R's, prompting the board into action.

Moore only replaced Neil Warnock as Terriers boss in September, but he was dismissed after winning just three of his 23 games in charge in all competitions, drawing 11 and losing nine.

B team manager Jon Worthington, who made 200 appearances for the club as a player between 2002 and 2009, has been placed in caretaker charge for the game against Wednesday, and he spoke of his pride at being given the role.

"I see it as a privilege (managing the club on a caretaker basis)," Worthington told Yorkshire Live.

"I’ve been connected to the club since I was nine years old, I’m through the academy, captained the team, come back. I’ve been working across the academy for the last nine/ten years, now as academy manager. I know everyone from top to bottom. I’ve been inundated with support from inside the club and outside, and that’s really nice.

"To be honest for me, I look at the fans and they know what I’m about as a player, they know how I was and gave everything, and I don’t see it any different. I’ll give everything I can for the game tomorrow, and I’m sure the players will too."

Huddersfield currently sit 21st in the Championship table, three points clear of the relegation zone.

It has been a tough few weeks for Wednesday, but they picked up a decent point in a 0-0 draw against play-off chasing Watford at Hillsborough on Wednesday night.

The Owls dominated much of the game, with Ike Ugbo, Michael Smith, Anthony Musaba and Mallik Wilks all going close, but they could not find a winner.

It was a busy end to the transfer window for Wednesday, with defender Kristian Pedersen and winger Ian Poveda joining on loan from Swansea City and Leeds United respectively on deadline day, and the duo could make their debuts this weekend.

Danny Rohl's side are 23rd in the table, five points from safety.

David Prutton's Huddersfield Town v Sheffield Wednesday prediction

Huddersfield and Wednesday played out a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture at Hillsborough in October, and Sky Sports pundit Prutton believes there will be little to separate the two sides once again on Saturday, predicting a 1-1 draw.

Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday facing crucial clash

This is a huge game at the bottom of the Championship.

It was no surprise to see Huddersfield part company with Moore this week, and it remains to be seen whether there will be a reaction to his departure.

Moore made the Terriers tough to beat, and they have drawn their last three league games, but a lack of wins and a damaging habit of conceding late goals proved costly for the 49-year-old.

Wednesday are without a win in their last three league games, but it was an excellent performance against Watford in midweek, and a similar display will give them a strong chance of picking up all three points in this one.
