Huddersfield Town are looking to add to their options up front before the end of the summer transfer window, and they are interested in signing Luton Town attacker Joe Taylor.

That is according to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon account, as the Terriers continue to prepare for their first season back in League One.

21-year-old Taylor impressed during two separate loan spells last season, first with Colchester United in League Two before moving up a division and joining Lincoln City in January.

He scored a combined 21 goals in his temporary spells away from Kenilworth Road, and he will be looking to build on that form next season for whichever club he is plying his trade for.

Luton's rivals, Watford, were linked with a move for Taylor earlier in the summer, but no move has seemingly been made, and it has now been revealed that Huddersfield have joined the race.

Michael Duff has not yet signed a striker since being appointed as head coach of The Terriers, despite being strongly linked with a move for Alfie May before he opted to join Birmingham City, and it seems as though Taylor is now on the manager's radar.

Joe Taylor would be a shrewd signing for Huddersfield Town if a deal can be done

If Huddersfield can bring Taylor back into League One after he impressed in the third tier for Lincoln during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign, it would be a real coup for Duff.

It is clear that the 46-year-old wants a hardworking goalscorer to lead the line after he came so close to signing May, and Taylor was up there with the best forwards in the third tier last season when it came to winning possession in the final third.

Taylor is capable of scoring all kinds of goals. He can put the ball in the back of the net with both feet, and his aerial ability is better than a lot of people would expect considering his height.

He proved that he could score goals in League One last season during his time at Lincoln, netting 10 goals in 19 appearances for the Imps.

It would not be a huge surprise to see further Championship interest in the striker before the end of the summer transfer window, so if Huddersfield can win the race for his services, it would be a superb acquisition.

Of course, Town do have a number of strikers already, such as Rhys Healey, Danny Ward, Bojan Radulovic and Josh Koroma, who is featuring more centrally in Duff's 3-5-2 formation, but the ex-Northern Ireland international defender is looking to add more pace and youthfulness to his attacking unit.

Luton Town need to be careful when making Joe Taylor transfer decision

Luton boss Rob Edwards explained that the club will not be 'selfish' when they decide what to do with Taylor ahead of next season.

There is no doubt that the forward could be a useful option for the Hatters in the second tier, but it is unlikely that they will be able to give him enough minutes to carry on the momentum he built last season.

The Championship side will also be looking ahead. If Taylor can continue his impressive development in the starting eleven for another club, it is likely to be more beneficial to them in the long-term than if he was to spend next season on the bench at Kenilworth Road.

The 21-year-old featured for Luton in the play-off final at Wembley in 2023, and they will hope that he can contribute to further success in the future.

It would make sense if Huddersfield signed Taylor on loan this summer, and it would greatly improve their chances of enjoying a successful 2024/25 campaign.
