It is common knowledge that Flamengo will need to sell off some of their top young talent in order to make off the money lost due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The next name that is close to leaving the club is the attacking midfielder Lázaro, who is in Flamengo’s U-20 side and is widely considered to be their top academy star.

Huddersfield’s interest in Lázaro is old and started in January, when the club tried to sign Lincoln, who eventually landed at Vissel Kobe. However, at the time, the conversations did not evolve.

Birmingham City, who are also in the Championship, also attempted to sign Lázaro but Huddersfield were in far more advanced negotiations.

Huddersfield’s idea, according to the report, is to sign Lázaro on a one-year loan until summer 2022, with an option to purchase the player for €3m.

However, Flamengo would be in line to make much more than just €3m as they would retain a 40% sell-on clause.
