Huddersfield Town boss Mark Fotheringham believes Coventry City defender Jonathan Panzo should have seen red yesterday afternoon.

Indeed, after being booked early on during the match, the Terriers boss believes that the Nottingham Forest loanee should have seen a second yellow for a second challenge on Jack Rudoni.

“I thought their defender could have had a red card, if we analyse it,” he told the media after the match, via CoventryLive.

“But these things balance themselves out over the course of the season.

“We are not a group that moan about these decisions. What we do is take accountability and we know what we did in terms of the manner in which we conceded the two goals.

“But I felt the two challenges were a bit over aggressive, you know, and on another day the lad could have been sent off in my opinion. But it’s one of those things. There wasn’t any real malice to the game. There was a bite and needle which was good and normal because we’re fighting for our lives.

“But I think the second one when we were through with Jack Rudoni should have been another yellow card. And I think he (Panzo) got let off the hook with that. But as I said, we’re not moaning about it. It was a very even game.”

With Panzo remaining on the pitch, the match ended in a 2-0 win for the home side Coventry City.

Following the result, Huddersfield Town sit 22nd in the Championship.

The Verdict

Clearly Mark Fotheringham felt strongly about the decision.

Indeed, the incident happened quite early on in the game so for it still to be fresh on his mind after the match speaks volumes.

You do perhaps feel that it was so early on in the game that in fact saved Panzo.

Not that it should matter, but i’d speculate the referee felt it was too early to show a second yellow, particularly after handing the young defender an early one in the first place.

Its not right, but that could be what happened, which will no doubt frustrate Fotheringham, as who knows what could have happened were the Sky Blues reduced to ten men.
