Huddersfield Town boss Danny Schofield was full of praise for Aston Villa loanee Kaine Kesler-Hayden after his debut for the club this weekend.

The 19-year-old joined the Terriers on a season long loan deal from Aston Villa on Friday and was thrown straight into the starting line up for the club’s home Championship clash with Stoke City.

Speaking after the match, Schofield said that he thought Kesler-Hayden had played really well during the match.

“Yeah we obviously do a lot of research on players before they come in on loan. We watch a lot of their games, their clips and we speak with people at their parent club to see what their character’s like.” Schofield explained, via YorkshireLive.

“I know a few of their coaches and asked them the question ‘if I put him in the team straight away what’s he like’ and they said ‘100% he’s this type of kid.’

“He’s a really good character and I thought he performed really well today.”

“He is an attacking player, defensively he did really well but his strength is to play in that last line, be attacking, make moves in behind, drive forward with the ball.

“He offers something probably different to what we have in the squad.”

Kesler-Hayden’s performance helped Schofield’s side pick up their first win of the 2022/23 campaign.

Huddersfield Town travel south to face Norwich City tomorrow night for their next Championship clash.

Kick-off at Carrow Road is scheduled for 7:45PM.

The Verdict

It sounds as though Kaine Kesler-Hayden hit the ground running on his Huddersfield Town debut this weekend.

Helping the club to their first win, it appears that the attacking threat he poses at wing-back was a key reason for Danny Schofield bringing him into the club.

Last season we saw loan spells in League Two with Swindon Town and League One with MK Dons for the 19-year-old, so his development has certainly been accelerated.

It will be interesting to see whether or not he can continue to impress at Championship level after another big step up.
