Guimaraes celebrated on social media after yesterday's 2-0 win against the Blues - and also sent a message to fans.

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes celebrated his team's 2-0 win against Chelsea in the last 16 of the EFL Cup on social media.

Taking to X, he congratulated his team on their win and also took the opportunity to look ahead to their clash against Arsenal at the weekend.

Coming into yesterday's game, redemption was on the agenda for Newcastle, who had suffered a narrow 2-1 loss against the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Having equalised in the English capital, Eddie Howe's side would have been gutted to have lost that game, and that would have given them extra motivation to get through to the last eight of the EFL Cup.

Joelinton hit the post early doors, but it wasn't too long before the Magpies took the lead, with the Blues' failure to play out from the back allowing Alexander Isak to put the hosts 1-0 up at St James' Park, and it's an opportunity he took.

Just three minutes later, Axel Disasi inadvertently cleared the ball into his own net to double the home side's lead, and the visitors couldn't mount a meaningful response in the end.

Joao Felix could have halved the deficit in the second half, but he fluffed that opportunity and Will Osula nearly made it 3-0, with his shot hitting the post.

In the end, this didn't matter, with the Magpies advancing through to the next round of the cup regardless.

They are now set to face Brentford at home in the quarter-final - and you have to say the Magpies have another golden opportunity to advance to the last four of the competition.

Bruno Guimaraes' message after Newcastle United's win against Chelsea

Guimaraes played a key part in the side that reached the 2023 final of the competition - and he will be keen to secure another Wembley appearance.

Celebrating this last 16 victory, he posted on X: "Quarter-finals, here we go! Congratulations for today, lads. Big game on Saturday, and we count on your support as always, @NUFC fans! Howay the lads 3️⃣9️⃣🖤🤍."

If the Magpies are to reach the final, they will need to overcome the Bees and win a two-legged semi-final, which is likely to come against one of the best teams in England, looking at the teams that are still in the cup.

However, Newcastle looked strong last night and won't fear any team, especially with Manchester City being knocked out.

Dreaming about Wembley would be dangerous for the Magpies at this point.

It's clear they have some very talented players, including Isak, and they are the firm favourites to win against the Bees and secure a place in the last four.

With their home advantage too, that should allow them to make their way through to the semi-final.

But they can't afford to get ahead of themselves, especially with the semi-final being a two-legged tie.

There are still three games to go until the final and there are no guarantees that they will win against Thomas Frank's side, so they can't look beyond the Brentford game at this stage.
