Leeds United will lock horns against a local rival in Sheffield United on Sunday. The Whites are hoping to register their first away upon their return to the Premier League, having secured a narrow win over Fulham in the last game. However, things could be tricky against the Blades, who are known for their defensive solidity under Chris Wilder.

Defence

Leeds United have recently announced the arrival of Diego Llorente. The Real Sociedad defender has signed a four-year contract with the club, although he is unlikely to feature in this game.

It means Robin Koch and Liam Cooper will once again form the central defensive partnership for the away side. Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping for a bit more solidity from these two after conceding three goals against Fulham.

Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas, meanwhile, are also guaranteed to retain their place in the starting lineup. They are expected to occupy their fullback roles, with Ayling operating a little deeper position to provide the balance in Leeds’ left-sided overhaul.

No changes are expected in goal either, with Illan Meslier hoping to secure his first clean sheet of the campaign.

Midfield

Pablo Hernandez picked up a late training injury, just before the clash against Fulham last weekend. Leeds United have offered no update regarding the fitness of the Spaniard, so it is perhaps fair to assume he’s not fully fit at the moment.

Hernandez’s absence should pave the way for Rodrigo to start in the number ten role, even though the new signing is yet to impress, following big money from Valencia this summer. He should partner Mateusz Klich in the advanced midfield positions, with Kalvin Phillips operating as the number six.

Attack

Moving forward, Helder Costa was incredible in the win over Fulham. The ex-Wolves star will be hoping to maintain a similar form against the Blades this weekend, on the right flank.

Jack Harrison is another guaranteed starter on the opposite flank. His work-ethic and direct style of play could be useful for Leeds United in breaking down the Sheffield United backline.

Patrick Bamford is expected to retain his position in the number nine role. The Englishman is hoping to continue his good run of form as he finally looks to prove his credentials in the Premier League.
