It looks like more of the same for Arsenal: incredible attack, mediocre defence.
Unai Emery struggled to find balance last season and he can’t afford that again.
So with that in mind, here’s how we think the Gunners will line up in 2019/20 …
Emery rarely played a 4-3-3 last season, but this is absolutely the way forward for Arsenal.
Alexandre Lacazette can float in the false nine role, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pépé play as inside forwards – running in behind from wide areas.
And what about that midfield! Ceballos brings technical security, Torreira plenty of tenacity and Guendouzi offers penetration from deep. We’ll just forget about the defence.
This follows more of what we saw last season, with Mesut Özil tasked with playing chief creator behind Aubameyang and Lacazette as a central pair.
Kolašinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles provide width from wing-back, while Xhaka can spray passes sitting in front of the back three.
Nacho Monreal, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi is a balanced, if unreliable trio.
Arsenal have EFL Cup and Europa League group stage games to play before things get serious January – and youth deserve minutes to impress.
Eddie Nketiah can lead the line with Alex Iwobi playing just off him, while Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Martinelli offer added goal threat from wide areas.
Joe Willock has enjoyed a brilliant 12 months and could form a promising partnership alongside the already established Mattéo Guendouzi.
