The forward joined the Blades last summer and was a key part of the side as they reached the play-off final under Chris Wilder.

Ruben Selles is now in charge of the first team squad, who will be aiming to go one step further and earn promotion to the Premier League this season.

Campbell arrived as a free agent from Stoke City, and his performances have led to him being linked with a move to Everton this summer after just one campaign with the Yorkshire outfit.

The 25-year-old frontman enjoyed an encouraging debut campaign in the Steel City, returning 10 goals from 33 appearances but just 20 starts at a rate of 0.57 strikes per 90 minutes.

Campbell's keen eye for goal, of course, was not quite enough to guide United back into the Premier League, though he did find the back of the net in the eventual 2-1 play-off final defeat to Sunderland at Wembley back in May and is poised to form a significant part of Selles' ambitions to take the club to the promised land at the second time of asking.

Tyrese Campbell outlines his Sheffield United focus

Campbell has reiterated his commitment to Sheffield United ahead of the new campaign, which gets underway this weekend.

The forward claimed he is grateful to the Championship side for the opportunity they gave him last year, suggesting his goal is to help the club gain promotion to the top flight.

“One hundred per cent, yeah,” said Campbell, via The Star, when asked if his focus was on Sheffield United.

“The club took the risk with me, and I want to repay them for the faith that they put into me.

“So I definitely want to be here and be a part of that.

“For me, it was quite easy to fit into the team and the style of play.

“There were a lot of great people and characters in the squad last season.

“For me, as I've said before, it was the best squad I've ever been involved in.

“And to get going in that, playing and being an important part of that, was something that I sort of relished.

“I had competition with Kieffer Moore and one of us would play.

“It's what every player needs, that competition, and I think that helped me go to another level in my game and my career.

“I'm just grateful for the opportunity that I got last year because, the season before, I was probably injured for most of it.

“So for the club to take that sort of gamble was good, and I've got a lot of repayment to do.”

Sheffield United’s opening game will take place against Bristol City this evening in a 5.30pm kick-off.

Tyrese Campbell’s comments will be welcomed by Sheffield United

It’s understood Everton are still monitoring Campbell with just a few weeks left in the summer, but these comments should ease any fears over his future.

The forward was prolific in the Championship last year, and will likely be chosen to lead the line for the start to life under Selles.

He proved a smart signing last year, and adding goals to the team with a free agent signing was great business for the Blades.

The aim will be to push for promotion this year, but competition will be stiff for a top two place, so Sheffield United will need Campbell to be at his best to compete with the likes of Ipswich Town, Southampton, Leicester City and the rest of the promotion hopefuls.
