Todd Boehly was instrumental in getting Harvey Vale to sign a new contract at Chelsea, according to an exclusive from Simon Phillips today.

The attacker has been having great success both at youth level with Chelsea and England in recent years, and made his first team debut last season under Thomas Tuchel.

It seemed only natural after that steady progress that he would sign a new contract, and he did so at the end of the summer, before going on loan to Hull City.

That seemed inevitable, given his steady improvements, but apparently that’s not the case.

Like so many of our talents in recent times, it seems Vale was seriously thinking about the benefits of leaving on a free transfer before Boehly intervened to convince him he would be a major part of Chelsea’s future plans.

This season’s loan is going to be a tough one – let’s hope it’s the making of him.
