Tottenham Hotspur host Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals tonight.

The two sides have met just twice before, in the 2022 Champions League group stages when they shared a goalless draw in Germany, before Spurs secured a 3-2 victory in London.

Tottenham have had an awful season so far and they sit at 14th in the Premier League table. Despite this, their European form has not been as bad as their league form. They defeated AZ Alkmaar in the last round to progress to the quarter-finals.

Here’s what you need to know ahead of the clash…

Kick-off time

8pm BST

How to watch in the UK

TNT Sports 3 or streaming on Discovery+

Injuries and doubts

Tottenham Hotspur: Dejan Kulusevski (out), Radu Dragusin (out), Kevin Danso (out)

Tottenham are finally getting close to having a full strength squad. They now have just three absentees and only one of them would likely take a spot in the starting line-up in Kulusevski. It is the strongest position that Spurs’ squad has been in for some time.

Eintracht Frankfurt: Ansgar Knauff (doubt), Can Uzun (doubt), Dina Ebimbe (doubt), Elye Wahi (out), Kevin Trapp (out), Oscar Hojlund (out)

Ansgar Knauff is likely to return for Frankfurt and the winger is a key attacking option for the side. Their attack also could be bolstered by the returns of Dina Ebimbe and Turkish wonderkid Can Uzun. However, star striker Elye Wahi will not be back until the end of the season and first-choice goalkeeper Kevin Trapp will not be ready for the first leg.

Predicted line-ups

Tottenham Hotspur (4-3-3): Vicario; Spence, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie; Bergvall, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Son

Eintracht Frankfurt (4-2-3-1): Kaua; Kristensen, Koch, Theater, Brown; Tuta, Skhiri; Larsson, Gotze, Bahoya; Ekitike

Recent form

Tottenham have endured one of their worst seasons in recent history. Injuries have been a major factor in their struggles but even with players returning they have struggled to build form. Spurs have just one win in their last five league matches. However, they have managed to get the job done in Europe so far. Their season hinges on Europa League success and this game is their top priority.

Frankfurt are enjoying a great season and sit in third place in the Bundesliga. However, they are some distance behind the top two and their form has dipped slightly since losing star man Omar Marmoush in January and they were beaten 2-0 by Werder Bremen last time out. Despite this, they demolished Ajax 6-2 on aggregate in the last round of the Europa League. The German side’s squad boasts some of the most talented youngsters in Europe alongside experienced players. They will not be an easy opponent.

What’s been said?

Ahead of the match, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou said: “You don’t know how often you’ll get these opportunities. I don’t know how many times this club has been in a quarter-final of a European competition and you don’t want to let that slip by or have the wrong sort of mindset going into it.

“I think the players are handling it well in terms of how they’re trying to embrace this challenge.”

On playing in the Europa League, Spurs winger Brennan Johnson said: “I just want to win it for the group of players and the staff that we have. I don’t really care about what other people are saying and the critics.

“To be honest, I feel like I switched off from that a long time ago. I love the lads, all the players in the squad, all the staff, the management team. I feel like we have created a really tight-knit group. We’ve all been under a lot of criticism, it’s something we can all relate to.”

Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller, meanwhile, said: “We need to be at our best as a team. We’re aware of the individual quality we’re facing with the likes of Son, Solanke and lots of other names. But we’ve got a team that can compete with Spurs.”
