A first meeting since a one-sided affair at Euro 2020 awaits

The first Nations League finalist will be confirmed tonight as Germany and Portugal go toe-to-toe at the Allianz Arena in Munich, less than a week after it played host to PSG’s 5-0 Champions League final rout of Inter Milan.

Wednesday’s winner will face either Spain or France in the final, which will be held on Sunday June 8 at the same stadium with a 2026 World Cup qualifying boost on the line.

It is the first meeting between Germany and Portugal since they were drawn into the same group at Euro 2020. Germany won that meeting 4-2 thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Robin Gosens alongside a pair of first-half own goals.

Neither side has enjoyed much success since, both eliminated in the quarter-finals at Euro 2024 and suffering disappointing World Cup campaigns in Qatar.

But their form has reversed in the Nations League. Portugal went unbeaten through their six group games, beating Poland heavily on two occasions. Germany can say the same, winning all but two of their group ties and enjoying a 7-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina last November en route to the play-offs.

Germany are on a run of five straight wins over the Selecao, and will hope to continue that form on home turf tonight.

Liverpool fans will want to tune in to catch a glimpse of Florian Wirtz in action as the Reds reportedly nears a club-record deal for the attacking midfielder.

TV Channel: The Nations League semi-final will not be broadcast on terrestrial TV.

Live stream: The match will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime, with coverage starting at 7:45pm BST ahead of an 8pm kick-off. Amazon Prime subscribers can watch for free, while pay-per-view is also available for £2.49.
