Recent form

Chelsea got off to the perfect start in the tournament last time out against MLS side LAFC, after goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez secured a 2-0 win. However, they suffered a crushing 3-1 defeat to Brazilian side Flamengo in their second Group D match, with Nicolas Jackson getting sent off four minutes after coming on.

Espérance sit third in Group D after one win and one defeat apiece. A 1-0 win over LAFC in their second group game sets the Tunisian side up for a final match showdown with the Conference League winners for a place in the knockout stages.

Predicted line-ups

Espérance (4-4-1-1): Ben Said; Ben Hamida, Tougai, Meriah, Ben Ali; Konate, Guenichi, Ogbelu, Mokwana; Belaili, Rodrigues.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Madueke; Delap.

What’s been said?

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella says he is confident the Blues can improve on a successful 2024/25 season next campaign.

“I think last season we achieved all that we wanted. Now this season, we’ll try to be better. I think we can be more consistent in the league, because we started strong, and then we lost a bit of power and a bit of confidence resulting in some lost or drawn games. We need to improve and be more consistent.”

Espérance winger Elias Mokwana says his side have nothing to fear against their Premier League opponents.

“I think we didn’t take our chances in the second half [against LAFC]. We started a bit slow. We could have started better and taken our chances – we have nothing to fear [against Chelsea].”
