Inter’s summer signing Marcus Thuram has hit the ground running in Serie A, coming up with nine league goals and providing seven assists from his first 23 appearances in Italy, a figure which is better than both Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku combined at the same stage last season.
The praise often lands on captain and leading goalscorer Lautaro Martinez, who is averaging a goal involvement every game with 19 strikes and two assists from 21 Serie A appearances,
But Thuram has provided Simone Inzaghi with a more reliable source of goals and creativity to support El Toro in attack.
With his nine goals and seven assists from 23 matches in Serie A, Thuram has outperformed both Dzeko and Lukaku combined.
After the same number of league games in the 2022-23 season, Dzeko had seven goals and three assists while Lukaku had two goals and one assist.
With Dzeko and Lukaku’s number put together, Inter had nine goals and four assists from their ‘second’ strikers last season, but Thuram has been able to improve on those figures single-handedly.
Inter also have Marko Arnautovic at their disposal this season. Although he is predominantly used as a replacement for Martinez and Thuram, he has also added another Serie A goal plus three assists to Inter’s collective tally this campaign.
The Nerazzurri find themselves seven points clear at the top of the Serie A table after 23 games, and still have a game in hand over Juventus in second place, following their 1-0 loss to Udinese on Monday evening.
