European group stage qualification for the World Cup next year is now complete.

Ten teams have booked their automatic places in Qatar with another three in line to join them in the play-offs.

Which teams are in the play-offs?

  • Austria (via Nations League route)
  • Czech Republic (via Nations League route)

What is the format?

The 12 nations will be split into three different paths of four, consisting of a one-legged home semi-final and final at a venue which will be decided by a draw.

The top six seeded teams will have home advantage in their semi-final.


Which teams are seeded?

Portugal, Scotland, Italy, Russia, Sweden and Wales.


When do the fixtures take place?

The semi-final fixtures will be played on March 24-25.

The play-off finals will be contested on March 28-29.


When is the draw for the play-offs?

The draw takes place on Friday 26 November at 17:00 CET in Zurich.
