The Red Dragons owner has shared a heartfelt message on Instagram
Ryan Reynolds has penned an emotional tribute to Wrexham striker Paul Mullin as his departure to Wigan Athletic has been confirmed.
The 30 year old forward has been the poster boy for the Red Dragons’ meteoric rise, scoring 110 goals in over 170 appearances for the North Wales side after joining from Cambridge United in 2021.
Mullin had fallen out of favour with Phil Parkinson’s side, and will now remain in League One in a loan deal with Ryan Lowe’s Lactics.
He told his 52.1 million followers:
“I can’t imagine seeing Mulls on loan and in another kit.
“We wouldn’t be where we are without his heart, skill and work ethic. We love you, @paulmullin12. SPM.”
The message accompanies a highlight reel of Mullin's Red Dragons stint, speaking volumes about the admiration and appreciation felt for the striker at the highest levels of the club.
The sign-off, SPM, is short for Super Paul Mullin - a nickname that has become part of Wrexham folklore in recent years.
It’s a label that reflects not just his prolific goalscoring record, but also the connection he forged with the fans, the town, and the club’s wider project.
Reynolds’ message reflects the high regard in which Mullin is held by those at the top of the club.
During his time at Wrexham, Mullin became a key figure both on the pitch and in the public eye, regularly featuring in the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries that helped to define the team’s recent identity.
His departure on loan comes as the club continues to reshape its forward line, with Ryan Hardie joining from Plymouth Argyle last week in a £700,000 deal.
The addition of Hardie, alongside recent signings, has increased competition for places up front, and Mullin’s move to Wigan suggests a strategic decision from all parties to ensure regular playing time.
Though under contract until 2027, his immediate future now lies in League One under the guidance of Wigan boss Ryan Lowe.
Reynolds’ tribute underlines Mullin’s importance to Wrexham’s recent success, but also signals a club now preparing for the next phase of its journey.
Whether or not Mullin returns to play a central role again, his contribution is already firmly established - a leading figure in Wrexham’s resurgence and a benchmark for what the club expects from its players going forward.
