If we were to assess Carlo Ancelotti’s trial run on the team’s performance, the 5-0 win over Alaves could be deemed successful.

However, it is essential to contextualize the situation properly. Alaves, known for their ability to stay afloat in the top tier despite financial limitations and possession deficits, did not pose the formidable challenge they often do in their fight for survival.

They fielded fewer key players than anticipated, something that will not be the case against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley on June 1.

Nonetheless, Real Madrid demonstrated that effective play does not necessarily entail high risk.

They derived some reassuring insights from the match: Vinicius Jr. showcased his peak form ahead of the Wembley fixture and Jude Bellingham has regained his composure.

The team’s coordination remains intact, Arda Guler continues to display accuracy in his shots, Eder Militao’s performance is improving, and fortunately, there were no significant injuries apart from Dani Carvajal’s minor scrape from a tackle notwithstanding.

Moreover, Thibaut Courtois made ten crucial saves, indicating a genuine test of his abilities.

With contentment and anticipation for the impending final, manager Ancelotti faces a selection dilemma for the final, especially since Aurelien Tchouameni will not be available for selection.

How can Real Madrid line up in the UCL final?

In goal, it is largely expected that Courtois will dethrone Andriy Lunin. The Belgium international, although absent for most part of the season, has made a perfect comeback and his performance in the last few games is slowly warranting him a place in the final.

In defence, Carvajal is certain to retain his spot to challenge an in-form Jadon Sancho, while in defence, Antonio Rudiger is likely to partner with Militao over Nacho. On the left flank, Ferland Mendy will resume his services.

The midfield is where things get tricky. Against Alaves, Ancelotti opted for a trio of Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Toni Kroos.

In all fairness, there is absolutely no reason why Ancelotti should change these players for the final. With Tchouameni absent, it is only logical for the manager to stick to the same trio.

Furthermore, Jude Bellingham will continue to play an advanced role, just behind the likes of Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo.
