With the UEFA Champions League final just a fortnight away, Real Madrid were dealt with a massive blow last week.

Aurelien Tchouameni, arguably one of Real Madrid’s most important players this season, suffered a stress fracture in his foot last week and is a doubt for the UCL final against Borussia Dortmund.

Tchouameni has been a rock in Real Madrid’s midfield this season. His ability to seamlessly transition between defensive midfield and centre-back has provided crucial tactical flexibility. His absence not only weakens the midfield but also the defensive unit.

How Real Madrid can line up without Tchouameni

As far as the Champions League final is concerned, the most likely scenario involves a midfield pivot of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. This pairing offers experience and control, but it raises concerns about defensive stability, especially against a dynamic Dortmund attack.

Eduardo Camavinga, the young French prodigy, could potentially be deployed alongside Kroos and Modric in a three-man midfield.

Camavinga should serve as the holding midfielder, tasked with the responsibility of nullifying creative players such as Julian Brandt.

The most significant impact of Tchouameni’s absence might be felt in central defence, though. The club are without the services of David Alaba while Eder Militao is far from 100%.

That is why Tchouameni was almost a regular in defence alongside Antonio Rudiger.

But with Tchouameni out, Nacho Fernandez is expected to partner Antonio Rudiger at the heart of the backline.

While Nacho is a reliable defender, Tchouameni’s ability to cover for attacking full-backs like Dani Carvajal was a valuable asset.

Real Madrid’s backline might have to tighten up its communication and positioning to compensate for Tchouameni’s defensive presence in midfield.

Full-backs Carvajal and Ferland Mendy will also need to be disciplined in their attacking runs to avoid leaving the centre-backs exposed.

One thing is certain: Real Madrid will need to adapt and find a solution to replace Tchouameni’s presence on the pitch.

The Champions League final hangs in the balance, and how Ancelotti navigates this Tchouameni problem could be a deciding factor in securing Real Madrid’s 15th European crown.
