Amid reports of interest in key forward Josh Sargent, Norwich City are said to be relaxed over the future of the United States international.
Norwich City are preparing for another season in the Championship, and there is uncertainty over a couple of key players ahead of the summer transfer window, including United States international striker Josh Sargent.
Sargent has enjoyed an impressive few seasons at Carrow Road, hitting double figures for goals in each of the last three Championship seasons, following a difficult first season, having joined with the club in the Premier League.
Sargent, a Werder Bremen academy graduate, is expected to be the subject of interest from elsewhere, as was recently revealed by Norwich’s Sporting Director Ben Knapper.
As well as uncertainty over Sargent, there is reported interest from Basque giants Athletic Club, who have qualified for the UEFA Champions League with a fourth placed finish in La Liga this season, in another key Canaries attacker, Borja Sainz.
However, in contrast to the Spaniard, Norwich are reportedly a little more relaxed over the future of Sargent.
According to Norwich-focused media outlet ‘Pink Un’, the City hierarchy are said to be relaxed over the interest in Sargent, with his future not expected to be decided until later on this summer.
The 25-year-old Missouri-born forward has been linked with the likes of Leeds United and Nottingham Forest this summer, whilst it is believed that Norwich held talks with Major League Soccer franchise FC Cincinnati over the player last year.
However, it has been suggested by the report that Norwich will hold firm in their valuation of Sargent, with Borja Sainz’ probable move likely meaning there is less pressure on the Canaries to sell again.
Sargent joined Norwich for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million in the summer of 2021 and remains contracted to Carrow Road until the summer of 2027.
As well as the potential departures of both Sainz and Sargent, Norwich are also actively looking to appoint a new manager, having sacked Johannes Hoff Thorup with a couple of games of the 2024/25 season remaining, and then opting to overlook interim boss Jack Wilshere for the job on a permanent basis.
It is expected that Bristol City boss Liam Manning, who led the Robins to a top six finish and the play-offs in the Championship this season, will complete his move to Norfolk this week.
The club said that discussions had begun with Aston Villa over the re-signing of Lewis Dobbin, who moved to Norwich on a loan deal until the end of the season during the winter transfer window, whilst Jacob Wright recently completed his permanent switch from Manchester City, having also finished the season on loan at the club.
As well as that, Norwich have prioritised a goalkeeper for this summer, with it already announced that Scotland international ‘keeper Angus Gunn will leave at the end of his contract.
Alongside Gunn, Norwich also confirmed that the likes of Jacob Sorensen and Onel Hernandez would not be retained, whilst Callum Doyle has returned to parent club Manchester City and Jonathan Rowe has completed his permanent move to Olympique de Marseille.
