Arguably the greatest quarterback in the history of the sport - who became part of Birmingham's ownership group in August 2023 - built enormous wealth during his playing days as an elite athlete in the NFL.

Throughout his 23-year career, Brady earned a total of $332,962,392m according to Spotrac. A 2023 report from Forbes also revealed he'd earned around $200m from his off-the-field pursuits, such as sponsorship deals.

His NFL journey began fairly modestly in comparison to others, with his initial contract as a sixth-round draft pick in 2000 worth $864,000 over three years with a signing bonus of $38,400. In comparison, the 199th pick in the 2019 draft earned a larger deal of four years and $2.52 million.

After guiding the Patriots to their first Super Bowl win in February 2002, Brady's financial trajectory literally skyrocketed. In August 2002, he signed a five-year-deal worth $30.52 million with a signing bonus of $10 million.

In May 2005, Brady penned a six-year, $60m contract with the Patriots, which included a $26.5m signing bonus. Come 2010, the five-time Super Bowl MVP and 15-time Pro Bowler would ink a four-year, $72m extension, with a $48.5m fully guaranteed signing bonus.

2013 saw him sign a three-year, $27m extension with the Patriots, before signing a two-year, $41m extension in 2016, with a $28m signing bonus.

2019 would see him sign his final contract as a Patriot, with a one-year, $23m deal. In March 2020, Brady signed a two-year, $50m fully guaranteed contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

By 2022, Brady topped Forbes' list of the highest-paid NFL players - with earnings of $75 million before taxes.

After announcing his retirement from the sport in February 2022, Brady would announce that he was indeed returning for a 23rd season just 40 days later. Brady would officially retire from the NFL for good in February 2023.

While his NFL earnings are very impressive, they align with the vision being implemented at Blues following their promotion back to the Championship.

Birmingham Live reporter, Brian Dick, suggested that the club could make as many as eight new signings in the 2025 summer transfer window, as Wagner and co have no intentions of making "sideways steps" in the Championship.

The club is also continuing to progress plans for a brand-new stadium - with a targeted completion date of 2029. It forms part of the "Our Future City: Central Birmingham 2045" initiative, which includes plans for 35,000 new homes and 74,000 new jobs.

Brady's experience of operating at the very highest level of professional sports is certainly helping the commercial aspect of the club already - with Wagner saying that Blues are the highest-revenue-generating club in the Championship without parachute payments.

For Birmingham City fans, it must be so exciting to not just have ambitious owners, but ambitious owners who back themselves up, and involving an icon in his own right - Tom Brady - provides the club with genuine hope that they can be back in the upper echelons of English football over the coming years.
