Dunne could join the Bramall Lane club this summer
QPR defender Jimmy Dunne looks set to leave Loftus Road upon the expiry of his contract this summer, with promotion-hopefuls Sheffield United believed to be interested in picking him up on a free transfer.
Dunne is into his fourth season at Loftus Road after a 2021 move from Burnley, and has emerged as one of Marti Cifuentes' most important and consistent players over the last 18 months.
The versatile right-back's impressive performances in the first-half of the season saw him linked with a move to promotion-chasers Sheffield United in the January window by Football League World, but he stayed put in West London and has continued to be a standout at the back for the R's.
QPR's biggest worry right now will be that Dunne is out of contract at the end of this season and could depart on a free transfer ahead of next term. He is likely to start to receive offers from higher-placed sides if his situation is not sorted out soon, and the Blades look primed to make a move.
According to Capology's estimates, Dunne earns a weekly wage of £8,500 each week at Loftus Road, which puts him 11th on their list of estimated highest earners at the club, behind Jake Clarke-Salter on £10,000 and ahead of Kenneth Paal on £8,077.
The Republic of Ireland international's weekly wage means he earns an estimated £442,000 in a year while with the Hoops. By the end of this season, he will have earned around £1,684,000 at QPR since he joined the club from Burnley in 2021.
Dunne's wages took a sharp increase when he joined QPR from the Clarets, according to Capology's estimates. He was believed to be earning around £3,000 a week at Turf Moor, or £156,000 in a year, which is a wage that pales in comparison to his current earnings with the R's.
Dunne looks set to depart Loftus Road soon, with no new reports around his contract situation, despite the R's having little to play for and already likely preparing for the Championship again next season.
The 27-year-old also previously admitted earlier in the season that he had "had no conversations" about a possible new deal being in the pipeline. Fast-forward to the present-day, and nothing has surfaced about him penning fresh terms, and so it would not be a surprise to see an interested club like the Blades begin to take steps to snap him up prior to his contract expiring.
Sheffield United have lost ground on the second-tier top two in recent weeks, with five points now separating them and first and second-placed Leeds United and Burnley, with just four games left to play.
Chris Wilder has mostly used a formation with a back-four this season, with the likes of Femi Siriki and loanees Alfie Gilchrist and Harry Clarke mainly sharing right-back duties throughout the campaign.
Seriki's estimated £10,000 weekly wage is probably a good barometer of the potential money that Dunne could be on at Bramall Lane, as the 22-year-old is the Blades' player and also signed a new contract relatively recently.
Dunne, though, is actually a centre-back by trade, and could well be used there by Wilder if he makes the move this summer. United are pretty short on players that can play in that position right now, with only Jack Robinson, Anel Ahmedhodzic and loanee Rob Holding to choose from at the heart of the defence.
Robinson's estimated £25,000 weekly wage is likely set to be the closest to what Dunne could potentially earn at the club, with the other pair both on a reported £30,000 per week.
Regardless of how much he could earn, it is clear that the Irishman would be in line for a big wage increase if he made the move to South Yorkshire soon, with Sheffield United's estimated £522,500 weekly spend on player wages dwarfing QPR's estimated £237,508 weekly expenditure on their squad.
