Plymouth Argyle have agreed a deal with St Mirren for Owen Oseni
Plymouth Argyle are closing in on a deal to sign Owen Oseni in a deal worth £60,000.
According to Sky Sports, the forward is set for a medical ahead of his proposed move to the Pilgrims this summer.
The 22-year-old joined St Mirren last year, and struggled for regular game time with the Premiership side.
He featured 10 times in the Scottish top flight, with each appearance coming as a substitute, as he failed to register a single goal or assist.
It is believed that Oseni is set to cost Plymouth £60,000 to complete his move from St Mirren to the League One side.
Tom Cleverley is looking to bolster his attacking options after being appointed by the Devon outfit earlier this month.
The Pilgrims will be aiming to fight for promotion to the Championship straight away after suffering relegation from the second tier last season.
Oseni will become their latest summer signing following an agreement with St Mirren.
It’s been claimed that the Scottish side paid £120,000 to sign him last summer from Gateshead, so have agreed a deal at a cut-rate price after his disappointing first year at the club.
Oseni is now set for a medical, as he nears the completion of his move back to English football, having also plied his trade with Derby County.
Plymouth have already been active in the summer transfer market following Cleverley’s arrival as manager.
The League One side have brought Bradley Ibrahim to the club from Hertha Berlin’s reserve team.
Deals for Jack MacKenzie, Zavier Amaechi, Jamie Paterson and Caleb Watts have all also been confirmed, with the quartet joining as free agents.
Cleverley will have his sights set on further arrivals, as he looks to build a team capable of a top two finish in the third division next season.
Plymouth have been able to secure a deal for Oseni at a very reasonable price, which makes this a low-risk gamble.
His time in Scotland didn’t work out, but there’s every chance he can still develop into an exciting prospect given he is still just 22.
He showed potential in the National League at Gateshead at a young age, so could make the step-up to League One level if given the opportunity to prove himself.
Given he cost £120,000 12 months ago, signing him for £60,000 could become quite a good deal if he develops his game under Cleverley.
