Relegation from the Premier League means that Ipswich Town will be facing big changes this summer; here's what may lie ahead for their existing squad.
Ipswich Town face a summer of upheaval following their relegation from the Premier League, so here's a breakdown of their current squad market values and what could be happening to some of them.
Ipswich will be relegated back to the Championship from the Premier League at the end of this season, and that means that substantial changes will likely be coming to their first team squad over the summer.
The Tractor Boys have picked up fewer than 30 points this season, and will end the season in the bottom three. But with some players having relegation release clauses and the needs of a Championship club being different to those of a Premier League club, we can be confident that next season's Ipswich team will look somewhat different to that which has played this season.
There is a huge disparity between Ipswich's most-valued and least-valued players, but there is much more to this than ability alone. Sam Morsy, for example, is their club captain and has performed with distinction throughout their ascent from League One. But his value will be affected by his age - he's now 33 years old - and the fact that he only has a year left to run on his contract.
And at the other end of that scale, Ipswich do have players who are highly sought-after, such as Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson. But their value will be affected by the details of any relegation release clauses in their contracts. Having scored more than a third of their League goals this season, Ipswich may consider Delap to be worth far more than £29.4m, but the release clause amount will be the deciding factor.
It seems just about certain that striker Liam Delap will be leaving Ipswich this summer. Delap has a relegation release clause which is believed to be around £30 million, and this has earned the interest of a number of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Ipswich paid a record-breaking £18 million for Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea last summer, but he could be on his way out of the club thanks to his relegation release clause. But the club do have more room for manoeuvre in this case. It was reported at the start of May that the price attached to his release clause is £35 million, which is way above the current valuation for him. The question is: will anybody come up with an offer for the player that the Tractor Boys will agree to?
Davis signed a contract extension with Ipswich in October 2024, tying him to the club until 2028. Having signed for the club in 2022 from Leeds United, he's been there as they ascended from League One to the Premier League, but they may choose to cash in on him now, following an impressive season in the top-flight.
With a newly-signed contract, they may well hold out for more than the £21 million suggested by Transfermarkt. Rumours have circulated about interest from Nottingham Forest for a long time.
He may not have earned the sort of headlines that Delap has in the Premier League, but Irish defender Dara O'Shea won the club's Player of the Year award at the end of his first season after signing from Burnley, so there may be interest in him.
He's contracted to the club until 2029, and he's valued at £11.75 million, but with no evidence of a relegation release clause in his contract, Ipswich are under no obligation to sell, and they may consider him to be worth considerably more than that valuation, especially considering that they paid £13 million plus another £3 million in add-ons for him in the first place.
