Manchester City are earning a staggering eight-figure sum per year from Etihad Airways over the naming of their now-iconic Etihad Stadium, a report has detailed.
The current Premier League champions first announced their partnership with United Arab Emirates flag carrier airline Etihad Airways back in May 2009, subsequently seeing the City of Manchester City Stadium renamed to become the Etihad Stadium.
Fast forward to 2024 and Manchester City’s home stadium now acts as the centre piece of the Etihad Campus, featuring a multi-use arena, sports track, and the football club’s City Football Academy training base connected via a bridge.
Etihad Airways’ sponsorship of Manchester City does not come without a significant financial package however, and a new report has detailed just how much the City Football Group are bringing in from the airline.
According to football finance expert Łukasz Bączek, Etihad Airways’ stadium naming rights at Manchester City are worth an eye-watering £15 million a year, while the Abu Dhabi airline’s total financial contribution to the Premier League champions is a record £80 million per year.
Manchester City have in excess of 36 sponsors contributing to their staggering annual revenue figures that continue to rise year on year, with the club themselves categorising their partners into ‘Global’ and ‘Regional’.
As part of the club’s ‘Global’ partners, Manchester City boast a number of high-profile names including sportswear giants PUMA, cryptocurrency brand OKX, Japanese beer Asahi, car giants Nissan, and EA Sports, while their ‘Regional’ list includes the likes of Kellogg’s and SportyBet.
As revealed in the club’s annual report for 2022/23, Manchester City’s total revenue for the year reached a new best of almost £712.8 million, an increase of £99.8 million or 16.3% on the previous twelve months.
The club’s commercial revenues accounted for £341.4 million, followed by broadcast at £299.4 million, and matchday at £71.9 million leading to a profit of £80.4 million – nearly double that of the previous year’s record of £41.7 million.
