Adams was a popular figure in B9 during his first stint with the club
Birmingham City's recent transformation has caught the attention of many, with Tom Wagner looking to continue making waves in this part of the Second City.
Ever since acquiring the club back in July 2023 from Birmingham Sports Holdings Limited (BSHL), the atmosphere at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park couldn't have been more contrasting to the years beforehand, where the famous stadium, at times, represented a dim-looking building site filled with an air of apathy as supporters continued to grow disillusioned with the former board's vision.
However, there were some who donned the royal blue throughout said period that became fan favourites, and have also gone on to enjoy successful careers beyond the club's standpoint in the Championship and in League One this term, although Chris Davies' current crop have become immortal by smashing the EFL points record.
One of those came in the form of striker, Che Adams, who went on to make Blues a major profit on the £1.9m they paid Sheffield United back in 2016, eventually leaving for Southampton.
The Scotland international has since enjoyed a largely successful spell at St Mary's before moving to Torino on a free transfer last summer. And, FLW has decided to look back at his previous departure from the West Midlands, amid reports that Birmingham are plotting a stunning summer reunion with the 28-year-old.
After netting 15 times in 55 appearances at Bramall Lane, the Leicester-born forward began his near three-year stint at St Andrew's under Gary Rowett, before going on to score 38 times and register 13 assists under five permanent managers.
The man who got the best out of the current 33-time international, though, was the last of those in the form of Garry Monk, as a 'little and large' partnership of Adams and Lukas Jutkiewicz proved a lethal combination. During the 2018/19 campaign, Blues flirted with the possibility of the play-offs before a dip in form coincided with a nine-point deduction that saw them finish 17th.
Regardless, it was a stellar season for the striker, who netted 22 times and accumulated five assists whilst featuring in all 46 league games. Such achievements would be recognised with a place in the division's Team of the Season, as well as being nominated alongside Teemu Pukki and Billy Sharp for the Player of the Season accolade, with the Norwich hotshot eventually claiming the prize.
Unsurprisingly, this led to strong interest from Premier League sides, with the Saints rekindling their interest in Adams after seeing an £8m bid turned down in January 2019, before an offer as high as £14m was snubbed by the West Midlands outfit.
However, on July 1st, the striker would eventually complete his first-ever top-flight move for a reported £15m fee on a five-year-deal, which at the time, made him Birmingham's most-expensive outgoing - a figure which has since been surpassed by current Real Madrid and England superstar, Jude Bellingham.
This season, the goals have been spread across Davies' side, although Jay Stansfield and Alfie May have been responsible for over half of those when it comes to overall contributions.
The club-record signing previously proved his capability at second-tier level with 12 goals during the club's chaotic relegation season. And, in a much more stable environment as well as returning to the division as a more well-rounded player, it wouldn't be a surprise if he tipped to accumulate an even-greater return next time around.
It could be a case where Stansfield continues to feature predominantly on the left wing whilst still proving a threat, as Adams becomes the main focal point, if a deal is to be struck.
This duo, alongside the potential signing of Kwame Poku - who has been the subject of a potential £30,000 per week offer from the club as exclusively revealed by FLW - could be a lethal combination which signals the club's intent of aiming for back-to-back promotions, something which Wagner previously placed on record.
