Boro's number nine has offered his thoughts on the potential addition of some centre-forward competition before the deadline.

The Rob Edwards revolution is in full swing on Teesside, as Boro maintained their perfect Championship record to start the 2025/26 season at Carrow Road on Saturday.

A quickfire double on the stroke of half-time saw Middlesbrough head into the break two goals to the good against Norwich, with Josh Sargent's late consolation proving to be only that.

Boro's next chance to extend their winning record will come on home soil next weekend, as they welcome a shell-shocked Sheffield United to Teesside.

Indeed, one of the Middlesbrough goalscorers in Norfolk was Tommy Conway, with the former Bristol City man netting the second of Boro's two goals.

It was his first goal of the new campaign, having ended his debut 24/25 season in the North East as the club's top scorer with 13 goals in 36 Championship outings.

A £4.5m addition from Bristol City last summer, the Scotland international has quickly become a fan favourite among the Boro support for his goals and relentless work-rate.

Another trait of his that has seen him become a beloved figure on Teesside is his fantastic attitude and superb character, which has been exemplified by a response he gave regarding a question about a potential new centre-forward coming through the door imminently.

Speaking via BBC Tees after helping his side to another three points over Norwich, Conway said: "Whether I'm playing or not, I'll always have an impact.

"Of course I want to be playing, but if someone else comes in, I only see that as good depth.

"We're going to have a real chance this season, so hopefully bodies can come in."

Conway looks set to get his transfer wish as Middlesbrough have multiple irons in fire for a new striker

It is rare for a player to speak with the mind of a supporter when it comes to their own position and transfer situation in the squad.

So easy would it have been for Conway to simply blow his own trumpet, and nobody could blame him had he done so. He's Middlesbrough's number nine after all, and a very good one at that.

Instead, he's urged his club and backed his head coach to go and bolster the centre-forward ranks, even if it comes at the cost of some playing time for him, with promotion to the Premier League evidently the bigger picture for him.

He could well be about to get his wish too, as Middlesbrough are reportedly in 'advanced talks' to sign Lausanne striker Kaly Sene.

Meanwhile, Metz forward Cheikh Sabaly is currently on strike according to reports in France, as he hopes to force through a move to Boro despite the Teessiders seeing a bid rejected for him earlier this month.

A deal for Slovan Bratislava's star striker David Strelec can't be ruled out either, as his father has recently confirmed that Middlesbrough remain interested in the 25-goal star from last season, after Boro failed to sign him in January.

Therefore, should Boro indeed make an addition or two to their forward line before the window closes, Edwards will be safe in the knowledge that he's not at risk of upsetting Conway, as Boro's number nine selflessly puts the success of the team over his individual prospects when it comes to playing time.
