Italy has won the World Cup a total of four times.

The four separate occasions came in the following years.

  1. 1934
  2. 1938
  3. 1982
  4. 2006

This has them hot on the heels of Brazil, who have won five – but Italy certainly won’t be equaling that record this year!

The most recent was the World Cup in 2006, which was hosted in Germany. The Italians played France in the final in an infamous match that saw Zinedine Zidane see red with THAT headbutt incident.

The game finished 1 – 1 but went to penalties and the Italians prevailed.

Gianluigi Buffon was one of the stars of the final, and the tournament in general – winning the best goalkeeper award.
