Manchester United and Chelsea clashed in a drab 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring with a well-taken penalty but Moises Caicedo’s magnificent drive helped Chelsea to take a point.

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has warned the incoming United head coach Ruben Amorim after the draw.

He said: “My take from the game is how many players does Ruben Amorim need? He’s got a hell of a job on his hands.

“I thought Manchester United were bang average and if Chelsea had nearly hit the level which we know they’re capable of they would have won comfortably.

“Massive job for Amorim.”

Amorim will need time to adjust to the Premier League

Amorim is one of the most sought-after managers in the world right now. He is only 39 years old but has already tasted the success that many managers don’t in their entire career.

He played the biggest role in breaking the two-horse race between FC Porto and Benfica in Portugal.

Under his guidance, Sporting CP won their first league title in 19 years and then won another in two years.

He is regarded as a tactical genius, but being a United manager requires more than just strategic brilliance.

The media scrutiny is intense and Amorim needs character to navigate past the pressure.

The difference between the football in Portugal and England is also massive.

Erik ten Hag made his mark as a tactically smart manager during his Ajax days but he struggled to implement his ideology at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s distinct style of football may lead to several players being deemed misfits, prompting necessary departures next summer as he reshapes the team.

Sutton is spot on with his comments that Chelsea could have easily won the game if they had played to their full potential.

Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer were not at their best today which made it easier for United to defend.

The Red Devils were woeful in the final third and needed a penalty to score at their home.
