How Liverpool should line up in attack next season | OneFootball

Here is what I think Liverpool's attack should look like next season.

The Reds are going into next season with a bit of a different forward line.

Divock Origi is on the verge of joining AC Milan on a free transfer. Monaco are about to sign Takumi Minamino for a reported fee of £15 million.

Sadio Mane has signed for German Champions Bayern Munich.

Despite all these departures, Liverpool have added some very promising forward players to their squad this summer.

Firstly, Fabio Carvalho. The Reds were meant to sign him in January, but the deal fell through at the last minute due to the paperwork not being handed in on time.

Liverpool have also signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a reported fee of €100 million.

Outgoings

Firstly, we are going to look at how the outgoings are going to impact Liverpool next season.

Mane will definitely be the biggest loss. The Senegalese forward always turned up in clutch moments and his 23 goals last season will be very hard to replace.

Origi is also going to be a loss. He always had this aura around him when he took to the field. Origi scored in some big games for Liverpool (Merseyside derbies, Champions League knockout games etc).

Finally, we've got Minamino. The Japanese international had a breakthrough season last campaign.

His 10 goals in all competitions made him Liverpool's fifth-highest scorer over the course of the season.

However, it seems like the 27-year-old is desperate to leave Anfield.

He recently said: “Many of the games I played weren’t of interest to anyone (squad rotation fixtures). Even if I left the results, there wasn’t much response. I was trying to inspire myself to prove my worth."

Minamino has been a great servant to the club and it's a shame to see him go, but you can't turn down £15 million for someone who is purely a squad player.

Liverpool's 'new-style attack'

In another opinion article I recently wrote, I said that I think Jurgen Klopp will play a 4-2-3-1 next season and move away from his trusty 4-3-3.

With that in mind, I'm assuming that Klopp will play four forwards, which gives me a lot more room for our attacking talent.

Let's start on the left side of the three. As much as I love Diogo Jota, I think his best position at Liverpool is upfront.

So for that reason, I'd be playing Luis Diaz on the left. The Colombian was probably our best-attacking player during the last six months of last season and that's crazy considering he only joined the club in January.

On the right side, there's only one player I would select - Mohamed Salah.

Klopp has a couple of different players he could start in the number 10 position. Carvalho played there all last season for Fulham and it is his favoured role.

However, I've got a feeling Klopp will try and breathe new life into Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian played as a 10 for Hoffenheim and it could relight his Liverpool career if he performs well there.

Finally, our number nine. It's got to be Nunez. You don't spend €100 million on a 22-year-old forward and not play him.

If this is the front four that Klopp goes for at the beginning of the season, then it will be really exciting to watch.

Thankfully, the German has a full pre-season with everyone, so he can try out as many variants as he wants and find the best fit for every role.
