Liverpool face another difficult test as they travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday for a headline Premier League showdown against Manchester City.
The Reds are gearing up to reignite one of the fiercest rivalries of the last decade as they battle the Cityzens for a chance to be considered serious contenders for the title.
Manager Arne Slot has found it difficult defending his historic triumph in his debut Liverpool campaign. However, despite their recent slump, the Reds are still in the title race.
They’ve managed to keep pace, and a win on Sunday could take them to within five points of runaway league leaders Arsenal.
City’s visit is undoubtedly a tricky fixture, but Slot made light work of Pep Guardiola’s side last season, claiming a pair of 2-0 wins at home and away.
After clinically dispatching Real Madrid in the Champions League on the back of a comprehensive 2-0 win against a dogged Aston Villa side in the Premier League, Liverpool are brimming with confidence.
They may not be entirely out of their rut, but a win against City could give Arsenal more reasons to be worried about dropping points against Sunderland on Saturday.
Rotation has become the watchword for many Premier League managers this season, but it would be silly for Slot to dismantle a Liverpool team that dispatched Madrid in midweek.
The Dutchman could be forced to make one change to the starting line-up, with Milos Kerkez coming in for Andrew Robertson at left back.
Aside from that minor tweak, every other player should retain their place.
Kerkez should line up alongside Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley in defence ahead of goalkeeper Giorgio Mamardashvilli.
Slot has confirmed that Alisson is expected to be fit enough to return to action after this month’s international break.
Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister should continue their midfield partnership while Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah line up on either side of Dominik Szoboszlai.
Hugo Ekitike will likely continue to lead the line with Alexander Isak sidelined.
